A Heap of Anime Updates Landed Over the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays present a plethora of activities far superior than scanning the headlines: opening presents, indulging in festive fare, and employing deep breathing to not arguing with family members. I hope you succeeded in do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments emerged during the break, and just in case you missed a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop the series' continuation. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which might be a positive development. Yet, the main art for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they are probably trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now fans are ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio known for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
